Small Business Tips on the connected enterprise podcast - simplifying and integrating telecom billing

Thirty years in the software industry means Mark Loveys has seen a significant technology evolution. Today, he’s the CEO of Datagate Innovation Group, which helps managed service providers (MSPs) simplify and integrate telecom billing. Mark was a guest on the Connected Enterprise podcast before the pandemic struck, and he recently visited again to reflect on what’s changed in technology during the past year and a half.

Mark and Connected Enterprise host Carl Lewis discussed the unprecedented level of urgency created by the pandemic, the importance of taking care of remote teams, how technology has united us, and more.

The Cloud Validated Itself

The managed service providers Datagate works with are those that sell telecom services. And because telecom services like cloud phone systems are an ideal solution for remote work, their use skyrocketed – and MSPs struggled to keep up. Enter Datagate, whose software enabled MSPs to automate their telecom billing and continue supporting their clients throughout the pandemic.

While the cloud used to be an abstract concept, it’s an undeniable reality today – and it proved itself during the unexpected circumstances of the past year and a half. Had the pandemic happened several years ago, many businesses would have come to a screeching halt. And even as pandemic restrictions ease and we return to ‘normal,’ many businesses can allow their employees to continue working from home, thanks to the cloud.

Take Care of Your Remote Team

For many, working remotely means increased productivity, no commute, saving money, and other positive things. However, there are downsides, like working too much and feeling isolated from peers. Mark stressed the importance of a work-life balance and ensuring your employees stay healthy –physically, emotionally, and mentally. Make sure they’re taking breaks, and as the pandemic’s travel restrictions loosen up, encourage your team to use their vacation time.

Unification Through Technology

Technology like the cloud, Zoom, and Microsoft Teams kept us connected during uncertain times. But it’s more than IT-related technology propelling us forward. Mark pointed out that the technology of making vaccines, protecting frontline workers, and keeping society operating is also critical. Technology everywhere is unifying people to devise solutions that allow essential services and businesses to emerge from the pandemic stronger than ever.
